Submissions are
always open!
This is where I tell you what I want to see (In case the title didn't give it
away)-my e-zine, my rules. I want to see your best campy horror. It should be
one or all of the following, creepy, campy, spooky, campy, funny, campy, gross,
campy, pulpy, campy. There is an underlying theme here, in case you hadn't
noticed, extra marshmallows to the one who guesses first. If it is not entirely
clear, please do not send me anything, deep, moody, psychological, overly gory,
of an adult nature, or profound. And please, not full of metaphors. It is my
humble opinion that the overuse of metaphors speaks as poorly of your talent as
a beggar asking for a handout. See what I mean-metaphors can bite like a rabid dog
going after a rabbit-so stop it. I have enough bad metaphors for everyone.
The story can be on any topic you want except one-no Ancient Indian Burial
Grounds-I don't care if you won a Stoker, an Oscar, and a Grammy-no exceptions.
Vampires-sure, werewolf's, one-armed men with hooks hiding under beds, go for
it. But think fun, think campfire stories, think Burgess Meredith's glasses
falling off after he alone survives a nuclear war, think aliens wanting to
serve man. If after reading your story, I can sit back and go "COOL!"
and picture the scene dissolving as the camera pans up into the star filled
night sky as the music plays, you might just have a winner. Be original, no
fanfic, and nothing that has appeared somewhere else within the last 90 days.
If you think it can be multiple submitted, it is probably not for here. All rights are yours. All I ask for is for a
thirty day exclusive, and if it is going to appear anywhere else, please afford me the courtesy
of letting me know. Reprints are fine as long as all rights have reverted to
you, and you let me know where and when it appeared before.
Artwork is fine as well, either color or black and
white. Please embed them in your
submission letter, and if I decide to use it, I will contact you for a better
copy for the site.
Manuscripts should be embedded in the body of an email and sent to
Letterstocamp@aol.com. Please indicate
it is a submission for Camp Horror or it will be deleted. I am accepting stories
up to 4,000 words; there is no minimum word limit. This is a ‘for the
love’ market-all I can offer you besides publication is a chance for
your work to be seen by a very large audience of readers. However, please edit
your story carefully if you wish to be chosen for one of the available slots
per issue. We publish bimonthly-April, June, August, October, December and
February. The submission schedule is as follows.
Deadline for Issue 4 in April is March 18, 2004-Closed
Deadline for Issue 5 in June is May 18, 2004
Deadline for Issue 6 in August is July 18,2004
Deadline for Issue 7 in October is September 18,2004
Deadline for Issue 8 in December is November 18, 2004
Any questions, please feel free to ask.
Good luck, and I hope to see you around my campfire. ![]()
